Mt Bromo 1

I found some photos I took while on holiday back in Indonesia last year July/August.

As some of you have probably guessed I'm not too hot when it comes to digital art (so i try to stick to writing ). I'd love to do something with this photo but I don't even know how to use Photoshop! So a quick border and a title will do for now

This is Mt Bromo in Surabaya. We went there as part of a tour. I had to get up 3 am in the morning! We we rushed into these little mountain jeeps. Each jeep consisted of 4 to 5 people plus the driver. From our hotel alone about 30 to 40 or so jeeps were boarded. We were driven half way up this mountain, yes I say half-way, because after the short ride everyone had to get out of the jeeps and WALK the rest of the way. YES WALK! at bloody 4 in the morning. So there we were walking up this mountain along with hundreds and hundreds of other people. Dad carried Richard by piggyback, and somewhere along the way dad pointed to some flowers and said to me "that's edelweiss" (sorry bout the spelling), not that I took much notice as I was chuffed about having to walk up this mountain. I didn't even bother about taking photos, but when I look back now I know I should have.

So anyway, we arrived at the top of the mountain eventually. The whole point of going up there was to see the sun rise. That's what everyone came for. So we waited...and waited...and waited...

As if my lack of sleep and the freezing cold was not bad enough, everyone in Indonesia smokes. EVERYONE...and no that's not an exaggeration. We're talking teenagers, adults, parents, shopkeepers, businessmen, waitresses, artists, musicians, grannies, granddads, greatgranddads, greatgrandparents, even young children..as young as 4. So I've never been fond of smoking right..but it was at this point that I realised I actually could NOT stand smoke at all. Hundreds and hundreds of smoking people all crowded together on this mountain trying to get the best view, and there I was crouched down in the middle. Crouched because I was feeling faint from the smell of smoke. I actually ended up having to leave the crowd (and my place) to take a breather. I almost puked..it really was that bad. Hey who said being short was sucky? I managed to push my way through the crowds just in time to take a few good shots

I don't think I'll ever be up there again. But it was beautiful while it lasted
